The Influence of Age of Host and Temperature of Incubation on Infection of the Chick Embryo with Vesicular Stomatitis Virus
نویسنده
چکیده
Chick embryos after 7 days of incubation were found to be much more susceptible to infection with vesicular stomatitis virus than were 10 day embryos. They had a 100 per cent mortality and were very suitable for titrations of the virus. The rate of increase of virus in 7 and 10 day embryos was studied. Two different temperatures of incubation were employed, 35-36 degrees C. and 39-40 degrees C., and the growth curves for the virus under the different conditions are presented. 10 day embryos were highly resistant and at 39-40 degrees C. more than half of them survived. At the lower temperature of incubation, 35-36 degrees C., all 10 day embryos died, but they survived much longer than did 7 day embryos. In the 7 day embryos death occurred after about 12 hours at 39-40 degrees C. and after about 16 hours at 35-36 degrees C., or earlier at the higher temperature. In embryos of both ages the virus titer reached at the higher temperature was only about 1 per cent of that reached at 35-36 degrees C., even in those that died.

Synthesis of M protein of HVJ (Sendai virus) in rat glial cells is selectively restricted at a non-permissive temperature.
Production of HVJ (Sendai virus) wild-type in rat glial cells was characteristically restricted at high temperature. The synthesis of the M protein was selectively decreased in infected cells at 39 degrees C. This temperature-sensitive (ts) character of HVJ was not observed in infection of LLCMK2 cells or chick embryo fibroblast cells. Newcastle disease virus, mumps virus and vesicular stomatit...

متن کاملCarbohydrate composition of vesicular stomatitis virus.
Analysis by gas-liquid chromatography of the trimethylsilylated sugar residues of purified vesicular stomatitis virus grown in L cells or chick embryo cells revealed the presence in the whole virion of four hexoses (glucose, galactose, mannose, and fucose), two hexosamines (glucosamine and galactosamine), and 34 to 40% neuraminic acid. The isolated viral glycoprotein was devoid of galactosamine...

Fertilized eggs were immersed in three different concentrations of deltamethrin (12.5, 25 and 50 mg/L) for 60 min at 37 ˚C prior to incubation (ED 0) and on the 4th day of incubation (ED 4) and incubated till embryonic day (ED) 16. Exposure to 50 mg/L of deltamethrin ...
متن کاملInterferon induction by viruses. XVI. 2-Aminopurine blocks selectively and reversibly an early stage in interferon induction.
A purine analogue, 2-aminopurine, reported to act as an inhibitor of protein kinase, selectively, reversibly and in a dose-dependent manner blocked a very early stage in interferon induction. With chick embryo cells and mouse L cells as hosts, and different viral inducers of interferon, maximal effects of 2-aminopurine were observed during the first 4 h of induction. At 10 mM-2-aminopurine ther...
